The Power of Forgiveness: A Path to Self-Love
Dear MentalWealth Club,
Lately I've been thinking a lot about forgiveness. Well, if I’m being honest it’s actually been a reoccurring theme in my coaching sessions over the last few weeks. Perhaps forgiveness is in the air, I don’t know but by my 5th client or so I realized it wasn’t irony. And since I take everything spiritually and don’t believe in coincidences I took it upon myself to look deeper. Turns out there’s a really profound connection between forgiveness and self-love. And I must say, I really like the idea of using forgiveness to increase self-love. After all, practicing forgiveness leads to growth; and I am always here for growth!
I know what you’re thinking, “how’d she take something like forgiveness which is usually extended to others and make it about me?” Well haven’t you noticed that it’s always about YOU in the end. The point is instead of trying to move on from the wrong doings of others it may be easier to start with self-forgiveness.
Self-forgiveness means releasing yourself from the regret of your choices. Like choices that may have led to getting hurt. Some of you may need to forgive yourself for taking others actions personally (because you know… hurt people, hurt people) or you may even need to forgive yourself for being in a bad friendship/relationship, missed opportunities, etc. Trust me, I get it. Many times when situations hurt us we have a hard time forgiving because we haven’t begun practicing forgiveness within ourselves yet. Self-forgiveness creates compassion and acceptance of ourselves and embraces our imperfections.
Here’s why self-forgiveness is a vital component of self-love:
1. It heals emotional wounds: Guilt, shame, and self-blame will keep you in the past, stop you from growing and destroy your well-being. Do yourself a favor and free yourself! Specifically from the chains of stagnancy and sadness.
2. It breaks the cycle: Judgment and resentment creates a cycle of negativity and self-sabotage. When we forgive we interrupt this cycle and create an opportunity for positive change. Learn from your mistakes, make amends where necessary, and move on with clarity.
3. It empowers you to grow: Self-forgiveness is an empowering process that encourages transformation. Believe me, nothing makes you want to level up more than walking away from drama. Release the weight of the past, focus on self-improvement and pursue your dreams.
Remember, self-forgiveness is not a one-time event but an ongoing process. It requires patience, practice, and self-reflection. Embrace self-forgiveness and unlock the power of self-love and create a life filled with compassion, acceptance, and personal growth.
I hope you received all of that. If not, let’s unpack it together in session.
I pray you have a beautiful journey of self-forgiveness and abundant self-love!
Until next time…
Wishing you peace, love & mentalwealth
